THIRUKKURAL AND THIRUVALLUVAR ON FATHER-SON BONDING (II)

What is the role of a son and/or daughter to his/her Dad? ☺😊

Good Morning !!!

Yesterday, we shared a powerful proverb as part of short spotlight report on the great soccer player, Pele. The proverb being,

"A wise child brings joy to his father; a foolish one despises his mother".

There is a powerful Thirukkural written by Thiruvalluvar without clear dateline, but might have been written around 200 - 400 BC, which captures the same point of view.

"மகன் தந்தைக்கு ஆற்றும் உதவி இவன்தந்தை என்நோற்றான் கொல்எனும் சொல்."

This sharing of two similar writings from two different sources is not to imply one copied from another, which in those days were certainly not easy with limited transportation and communication means as we have today, but more to see the commonality in thinking amongst great thinkers with deep wisdom, experiential, tacit, inferential and observational learning.

This example also shows that deep thoughts with clear understanding could be concisely and clearly presented in short verses, in this case, a couplet.
